Champions In Schools

The positive impact of role models in sport – and everyday life – is well recognised and respected. Through our leading Champions in Schools programme we are providing young people with multiple visits from inspiring role models and helping them to adopt sport as a tool for life.

By modelling their behaviour, thoughts and attitudes on successful sporting personalities, the 10 – 15 year olds taking part can learn the skills required to pursue and achieve their goals.

Set up as a pilot in 2008, this innovative programme places athletes in classroom to deliver a series of inspirational workshops focusing on the life-long benefits of sport, including:

Healthy and active lifestyle

Appreciation and value of hard work

Setting and achieving goals

Adoption of a positive winning attitude.

Designed to complement the Curriculum for Excellence, the programme also involves teachers and parents to ensure long term success.  To date over 80 top-class sportspeople  -  including some of Scotland’s medal winning heroes  - have committed their time and energy to show young people, first-hand, that success is attained through sustained effort..

Now in its fourth year of making a positive and long lasting impact on the lives and lifestyles of over 5, 000 pupils, Winning Scotland Foundation plans to roll the programme out nationally. By 2014 we aim to deliver Champions in Schools to more than 10, 000 pupils across every local authority in Scotland.
