After more than 40 years spent devoting his days and nights to developing the talent of young track and field athletes, few would be surprised if the Edinburgh born coaching maestro had decided long ago to ease back on his commitment to the track. However, as Richard Winton, deputy sports editor of Herald sport discovered, the former RAF man and engineer whose coaching skills have benefited the likes of 1980 Olympic gold medallist Allan Wells, remains as passionate and committed as ever to his sport and in helping young athletes.
